P.
How would you spend £1m on Somers Town?

Somers Town residents will be receiving £1m from the Lottery over 10 years to make lasting change in the community.

This funding is for residents to decide together how to make Somers Town even better and to meet needs in the area.

"It is important to remember that Big Local is about putting residents in charge" Local Trust (who manager the funds)

The more residents that contribute the better.

To give your ideas and find out more....         there are 2/3 events:

1/

2/

3/

Then afterwards there will be a meeting for residents who would like to be involved in the planning of how we will make a difference in detail and on regular basis (on   Jan/Feb    , at Regents' High School?).

There will also be regular subgroup meetings such as:

Environment, Young People, Senior Residents, Community Spirit eg events.

See www.biglocalsomertown.org (not yet) for dates, information and for how to be involved eg for internet discussion if you can not come to meetings.

Come to a meeting (or go to the website) to give your idea/or opinion:

1/ (event family focused with semi-creche)

2/ (event for everyone)

3/ "Partnership" event for people interested in regular planning meetings.

F(side)2:

What is Big Local Somers Town?

Somers Town has been selected as a Big Local area.

Big Local is a Big Lottery programme working in 150 areas of England, so residents will receive at least £1 million in lottery funding over 10 years to work together to make long-lasting, positive change in the area.

Big Local funding is to be invested in what we think will make a real difference to Somers Town and these three dates (overleaf) have been set up for us to share our ideas:

When we agree what is important to you, a detailed plan of how to use the funding to make that difference will be compiled.

We 'll form a local ‘partnership’ of residents (on:   (date)  at:            ) who would like to be involved in the planning and that can include local organisations.

It' s important that you come along (on one of these 3 dates overleaf) to give your views to make sure Somers Town’s £1m is spent on what local people really need and to make the area (even) better.  It is also important that there are a good number of residents engaging in the regular future (“Partnership”) planning meetings.

We really need a paid for forum (pay a small subscription from the Start Up money) so that we are not leaving people open to more /spam mail (that might come with a FREE internet based residents' forum, although I never noticed this because gmail and yahoo filters them out).

This will save residents from needing to set up a spare email account.

The question is then when?  If there is a group deciding on this together then it should prevent problems like that (and the larger the group the better).  I can't see any other problems and we have this free one as an example to consider.

Two good reasons for setting up an Internet forum straight away is that:

* people can know what is going on straight away, and comment on it.

* if people are informed on the flyers everyone can then be included (not everyone has the internet but eg the ideas should be taken to the meeting, and if people are not included via the internet then everyone is certainly not included because many just can not come to the meetings - which would be a very slow way of working together anyway, and will probably mean no real working together) given that the flyers are going to every household.  Also people can know the set up they'd be getting involved in eg a (more) democratic one, and a more shared one (versus just formal meetings).

It has been suggested that people say, "Yes." Or "No."  And if it's, "No." Then give the reason.   Smile              Rolling Eyes  Idea Arrow
