Big Local update: Setting Up
There are currently plans being made for 3 INFORMATION and consultation MEETINGS to be held quite soon, organised /overseen by Chris Church, the Rep whose role is to support residents. There will then be a PARTNERSHIP meeting for people interested in being more involved in the planning of meetings and organisation (and therefore meeting more regularly). A number of SUB-GROUPS will also start up based on past feedback: Environment (encompassing Greenery/Trees), Children/Youth, Senior Residents, “Community Spirit”, Jobs.
There are also plans to let everyone in Somers Town know about the information meetings and the setting up a Partnership meeting with a FLYER through their letter box. (Currently the meetings proposed are Origins afternoon tea for Senior Residents but all are welcome, a Youth focused meeting and a family focused meeting which will have a semi-creche available, however they will be open to everyone.)
The Local Trust has decided to pay someone to get the work done in SETTING UP these meetings in order to help the new Rep. Origin Housing’s Community Involvement department have offered to do the practical work of organising the meetings for free (Sahil Khan the community involvement officer has and will attend meetings) to get things started, while Chris Church will work on other aspects for example compilation of the flyer and other communication with residents and you can email on the [Only admins are allowed to see this link] website (or contact Origin Housing community workers if you want emails on what they are doing - as they try to discuss the setting up via emails) for more information at this early stage because there will be committee set up for this reason, to ensure residents are involved.
We’ll need a WEBSITE for the Big Local and the Somers Town Residents’ one is currently stuck (eg on the front page where the date of the next meeting is stated). There is a page for Somers Town on the Local Trust website and so information for people such as the dates of the meetings can be posted on this via Chris Church. Somers Town Residents do however have this handy Internet forum for people interested in discussing eg a website and everything else consideration has been given to setting up a website to enable us to do this (ie discuss with each other) and so any ideas/interest in that please let me know (everyone would be informed later on). Details and good points can be taken to the meetings.
It seems that we'll call a Somers Town Residents meeting as needed because currently the setting up of the Big Local is taking place that includes everyone also.
