At the Somers Town Planning Forum the idea included previously to build on the Purchese Street park was dropped from the Plan (somerstownplan.info).

This was because information was obtained indicating that it was not necessary to do this in order to build the school and given the other building going on, all within this small area (of two small park areas with the primary school grounds in between – also is there any logical reason why the funding for the school etc has to come from this same small area that the architect team are working on).

An application for building in this described area of school and parks from the Council was thought to be about to happen but was delayed apparently because of Thames Water.  There seems to be indication that there will no further consultation because of a “special” case of the school viewed as being needed to be rebuilt urgently.

Just as a reminder of what was last being proposed:

About half the Purchese Street (/Brill Place/Coopers Lane) Park was planned to be taken up with buildings (flats).

21 mature trees were to be lost.  A lot!

The Primary school would lose 1/3 (I heard, not sure if that is quite correct) of its site area (the Council’s/architects' idea is that this would make up for space lost on the park and constitute part of the park between these parks (apart from anything else, Purchese St would no longer really be a park however???)

Plot 10 children’s after school club and playground (currently adventure playground) would become smaller surrounded by flats on each side.
